Every File Starts as an Enquiry.
Most law firms have complete visibility after a file is opened - and limited visibility before. MatterIn closes that gap.
- What enquiries arrived?
- Who owned them?
- What happened next?
- Which became clients?
- Which were lost?
Because what cannot be seen cannot be improved.

The visibility gap
Most firms know what they billed. Few know what arrived.
Most firms know how many files they opened last month.
Most firms know how much they billed.
Most firms know what sits in their matter management system.
But what happened before those files were opened?
- How many enquiries arrived?
- How many received a response?
- How many became clients?
- How many were referred elsewhere?
- How many were lost?
MatterIn was built to close that visibility gap.
The managing partner test
What happened to your last 100 enquiries?
- How many became clients?
- How many were referred?
- How many were declined?
- How many received no response?
- How many simply disappeared?
Most firms don't know.
MatterIn does.
Why MatterIn exists
None of your systems were built to track the complete enquiry journey.
That is not a criticism. It is simply not what they were built for.
MatterIn was designed specifically to answer one question: what happened to every enquiry?
Why MatterIn is different
Most legal software focuses on what happens after instruction. MatterIn focuses on what happens before.
What matters exist.
What opportunities existed.
What work you have.
What work you won, lost or referred - and why.
MatterIn does not replace your existing systems. It fills the visibility gap between enquiry and instruction.
Visibility beyond your firm
Most software stops at your firm's front door. MatterIn doesn't.
When a matter falls outside your expertise, a conflict arises or capacity is unavailable, the enquiry is often referred elsewhere.
At that point visibility usually ends. The enquiry disappears. The outcome becomes unknown.
MatterIn allows firms to maintain visibility beyond their own organisation.
- Who received the enquiry.
- Whether it was accepted.
- Whether it progressed.
- What happened next.
Not just inside your firm. Beyond your firm.

The founder story
MatterIn was not built in a software lab. It was built at a desk in a law firm.
Most days began the same way. A new enquiry would arrive - sometimes by phone, sometimes by email, sometimes scribbled on a note left at reception. By the end of the week, no one could quite remember what had happened to all of them.
Files that were opened were tracked carefully. Files that might have been opened were not.
It became impossible to ignore. Real opportunities were arriving - and quietly disappearing. Not because anyone was careless. Because no system had been built to hold them.
I kept asking the same question in different meetings - "what happened to that enquiry?" - and every time, no one could give me a complete answer.
- Founder, MatterIn
There was no shortage of legal software. Practice management. Accounts. CRMs. Email. Each one was excellent at what it did. None of them were designed for the part of the journey that mattered most: what happens to an enquiry before it ever becomes a file.
Enquiries arrived through:
- Phone calls.
- Emails.
- Website forms.
- Referrals.
- Conversations.
MatterIn was built quietly, over evenings and weekends, by someone who had to live with the problem every working day. It was tested in the real environment it was designed for - a working law firm, with real enquiries, real partners, and real consequences.
It exists because the question kept being asked. And because, finally, someone built the thing that could answer it.
Pilot firms found that roughly one in three enquiries had no clearly recorded outcome before MatterIn was introduced.
Based on enquiry audits across early UK pilot firms, 2025-2026.

Why firms choose MatterIn
Six reasons. One outcome.
- See exactly where every enquiry sits.
- Understand why opportunities are won, lost or referred.
- Create clear ownership and accountability.
- Reduce reliance on manual updates.
- Improve consistency across departments.
- Gain visibility over firm-wide enquiry activity.
Built specifically for legal practices seeking greater visibility over enquiry handling, ownership, conversion and referral outcomes.
Early pilot firms are helping shape the future development of the platform.
The final question
What happened to your last 100 enquiries?
Most firms can answer that question partially. Few can answer it completely. MatterIn was built to provide the missing visibility.
Every file starts as an enquiry.
